Understanding Mindbody Connection - Energy

After the completion of a Medical Intuition course. I began to wonder: where have I given my power away?

Carolyn Myss, one of the great teachers of Medical Intuition, often speaks about howe let go of our energy throughout the day - leaving pieces of it in places and situations we’ve been.

The question keep echoing in my mind: Why and where, have I been doing that?

So after, I began to feel increased pain in my lower abdomen. I assumed it was related to a past injury in my L5-S1 vertebrates. In the past, the pain from that injury radiated from the back into the front, so I thought it was another flare-up. I committed to moving more and meditate, hoping it would help.

It didn’t. The pain got worse.

I went to my osteopath, who found inflammation in my abdomen. Then to my chiropractor. Then to my family physician. He did the usual process of how doctors try to diagnose people with pain. He x-rayed my abdomen, took blood and a urinalysis. All of these tests were negative and didn’t indicate any underlying condition. The physician concluded I had a bowel infection. He prescribed antibiotics.

The severe pain began to subside, however, I felt something wasn’t quite right. I was exhausted, foggy-headed, and still had moderate pain. Three weeks later, I decided I needed to try another approach.

As I deepened my study of the body’s energy through Reiki and chakras system, I tuned in and listened to the messages. My intuition first pointed to my sacrum, or Sacral Chakra. I realized the symptoms also involved my Solar Plexus Chakra.

The Solar Plexus chakra is where upward-flowing Earth energy meets downward-flowing energy called apana (circulation of energy). It is the centre of personal power - how we interact with the outside world, how we honour ourselves. It can also hold fear about having ‘too much responsibility.’

And then the truth came to me:

I had an energy block!

What had I done?

I was tired of dealing with it. Too much work to figure this out.

In that moment, I saw my life more clearly. I have been one of the caregivers to my dad for several years. As he declines the caregiving responsibilities increase. The Solar Plexus affects many areas of the body - adrenals, small intestines and stomach are involved. I could feel that all three were involved.

Even though I knew how to listen to my body, I had given my power away. I was overwhelmed. Too much to do. Too much to think about. I have been so busy taking care of others, that I just wanted someone - anyone - to take care of me. I believe healing is ‘Wholistic’ which includes many healers. I had forgotten one important healer: me.

That realisation brought me closer to understanding the energetic pattern of adrenal excess.

I chose to let go of control. I chose to stop taking responsibility for someone else’s health choices, if they aren’t willing to take responsibility themselves. I chose to love unconditionally - starting with myself - through consistant physically and emotionally self-care.

My healing journey has a mix of incredible highs and some scary, exhausting lows. Every step has taught me about myself, others, and about the world. Healing, I’ve learned, brings awareness, connection and wholeness.

I dream of a healthcare-system that sees all of us, not just the physical symptoms. A system that recognizes those symptoms as signals of something deeper. One that ask questions to help patients connect to themselves, their bodies’ messages, their emotions and the the circumstances shaping their health.

True healing begins when we are seen, heard and connected, body, mind and soul.
