Connecting

Oh, how I have missed the physical connection. Hugs from my dad and hugs from my children. The physical presence of my children. The need to see them in person. To visit friends from far away and the disappointment of cancelled plans to travel to see friends and family.

It has been suggested that we maintain physical distance to keep us ALL safe from infection and harm of contracting an illness that, at times, has catastrophic outcomes.

Connections are being experienced in different ways now. Most of us have experienced participating in virtual calls. We are able to see faces, hear voices and observe body language. Virtual calls give us an opportunity to make connections from all over the world. The effort to make these connections may not have been realized without the pandemic. I have so much gratitude for all the people I have met on the virtual platform. It is one of the most wonderous platforms of human connection.

How do we move out of virtual connection to once again physical connection? What are the next steps? Are we risking our lives to be with people? What scares you?

When we hold beliefs of doom and gloom, combined with fear and anxiety, our immune system becomes compromised, and we are more susceptible to contracting even the common cold, never mind a life-threatening disease. Holding onto anger causes cancer in our bodies. Release the fear, the anger and the trepidation. Allow freedom of choice and thought to replace them. For when you do this, a new outcome will be possible.

In this time of social distancing and staying in our homes, we have been given an opportunity to connect with ourselves. To go deep inside of you and discover what you have missed and have not noticed about you. What do you really need and want?

Do we open our arms, our hearts and embrace all those around us physically? Or do we continue to connect virtually and energetically?

Will it ever be safe again? Safe to breathe. Nature offers healing in so many ways. Trees give us oxygen, that’s safe to breathe. Walking barefoot on grass helps improve sleep, reduces pain, decreases muscle tension and lowers stress. Growing a garden indoors or outside gives our bodies nutrition. The reward of producing something just for you and your family increases endorphins, provides happiness and contentment.

Each person needs to discern these questions and take action according to their own comfort of connecting. Remember to be respectful and okay with other people’s modes of connection. Be open to hearing and seeing how others feel and desire to come together. Remember to not judge, be curious and open to learning another way.

“You cannot change others according to your beliefs.

You have the power of choice and can make changes,

only for yourself.”

Maureen Gaetz-Faubert

It is a fact that humans need physical connectedness. Babies fail to thrive without human contact, after long periods of time, adults will also fail to thrive.

What is the new normal? Was there ever a normal? Please let’s not go back, most of it wasn’t working. Let’s create something in this world where connections are more loving, more peaceful and more resilient.

Things are opening up, and people are coming together once again. Let’s be the change the world needs. Let’s continue to reduce our carbon footprint. Let’s create a community that shares resources, respects and talks to their neighbours. You have heard the saying, “It takes a village to raise a child.” It takes a village to raise the energy that creates a community where coming together produces cooperation, support and belonging.

“Put down your shields, rise up your arms, embrace the change.

Create a new and sustainable future.

Breath in the goodness and breath out the fears.

Surround yourself with love, truth and healing.”
