Inner Environment
I spent many decades supporting and helping people solve their problems. From creating a national non-profit organization for rare disorders to supporting people with developmental disabilities. Along with friends and family who seemed they couldn’t navigate systems or put into place what they needed in their lives.
I would become frustrated when what I put into place what was not followed through. Or my plan was not carried out.
What I discovered is that I was so busy helping others, I completely forgot about me. My needs, my health and wellbeing. I thought if I could make everything and everyone around me feel safely taken care of, I’d feel the same too.
I was so wrong. That was my external environment. I needed to pay attention to my internal environment.
Yes, I love helping others. I’ve recognized that I attempted to have others comply with my agenda, not theirs. It caused me to experience frustration, disappointment and anger.
What supports me/you to experience your Inner Environment? One that will bring happiness and contentment?
For me:
Peace – walking in and connecting to the energies of nature. Seeing flowers bloom, watching the squirrels skitter here and there. Listening to the bird’s communicate through song and chirps. Observing the sparkle of freshly fallen snow.
Conversations – those that create a deeper meaning. Ones that hold space for curiosity. Where there is no judgement, just comfortable words exchanged.
Heart – observing the world through love and compassion. Loving and accepting me.
Gratitude – there is so much to be grateful for. Running water, abundance of food and a secure place to lay my head at night. Appreciating the smallest of things, that have a profound impact, such as a smile.
Moments – being still enough to observe what’s right here right now in front of me.
Silence – hearing and feeling what’s around me.
Letting to – recognizing when I’m holding on to an/my outcome. Observing how it’s affecting my emotional and physical health.
I’d love to hear yours.
From my heart to yours,
Maureen
